The base of this lotion is an all organic calendula lotion made in the traditional way meaning none of the ingredients ever touched metal, no external high heat was applied in the infusion process, and the entire extraction was performed by hand using time, maceration, and patience. Once the oil is strained through a non-bleached cheese cloth using a sea glass strainer it is combined with reverse osmosis water, rose water, and witch hazel.

This lotion will separate as it is truly surfactant, aka emulsifying agent, free. What does this mean? Due to industrialization, lotions contain surfactants which are chemicals synthesized to assist in the emulsification process. What is emulsification? Emulsification is the combination of oil and water at high-speeds as they naturally separate. As large scale manufacturers want to ensure their products won’t separate with time or temperature variations they add synthetic, sometimes even considered “all-natural”, surfactants which irritate the skin by increasing the solubility of our derma-lipids. Derma lipids are our first defense to water and airborne pathogens and toxins. If we are really caring about our skin, we will be prioritizing the health of our derma lipids which means we will treat our skin with surfactant free lotions and oils.
