Turkey Tail aka Tramates Versicolor

Close up a a fresh Turkey Tail in Bowling Green, IN

Turkey Tail, Tramates Versicolor, likely the most common mushroom to stumble across in the woods, rarely reveals itself in its freshest form but when it does the view is breathtaking. Take a look at this gorgeous example I found in Bowling Green, IN after a fresh rain.

They are a decomposer fungi aka a saprophytic fungus. In short, they feed off dead wood and turn that wood into minerals and nutrients for the soil to soak up and redistribute into nearby plants and trees. While doing so, the mushroom fruit body becomes rich in nutrients itself and their tissue structures many medicinal compounds as a result. These micro molecules (I.e. amino acids) and macro molecules (I.e. lipids, polysaccharides, phenols, flavonoids) all contribute to Turkey Tail’s immune boosting properties.

Two of the identified polysaccharides isolated from Turkey Tail mushroom, PSP (polysaccharopeptide) and PSK (polysaccharide-K) have been well studied for cancer treatment and are believed by many scientists to boost the effectivity of standard cancer care approaches. A benefit being Turkey Tail aids the liver by reducing fat deposit and decreasing inflammation throughout the body. This attribute lends Turkey Tail as a positive link to improved gut health as well.

The name Tramates Versicolor, for all the foragers out there, translates to one who is thin of many colors. A true Turkey Tail mushroom will be thin like a sheet of paper, multicolored as in distinct colors not just gradients (blue, white, brown, green, red), and certainly found in plenty on rotting wood like stumps or fallen logs. Once you find them you’ll know exactly where their name comes from as they so well resemble the outspend feathers of a turkey.

Dosage: Shake well before taking. Take your tincture once in the morning and once in the afternoon by filling the attached dropper 2x and distributing under the tongue or in a drink of choice, water, milk, juice, coffee, and tea are all suitable forms for dispersion.

What makes our tincture special? Forage & Cultivate uses a traditional approach to extracting mushroom medicine. We do not apply heat during our alcohol extraction process, we do not apply ultrasonic waves to speed up the process, we know that to hurry medicine is to damage medicinal compounds in the process. Instead we take the slow and steady approach. We use fresh mushrooms steeped for a month which we shake rigorously daily while meditating our positive intents for the future recipient to absorb. All our products are made from ingredients that are organically grown or organic certified. They are truly Crafted for Consciousness.
